Abstract

The tile press (M) comprises a lower die (1) against which the tile (41) is pressed by an upper punch die (PZ). The lower die has a cavity (7) containing an incompressible fluid such as oil (F), on which is located an elastomeric membrane and plate component (4), grooved (5) to form the ribbed rear face of the tile. The component (4) incorporates a steel latticed plate (39) and is retained in the die cavity (7) by integral elastic anchoring elements (19). The oil (F) is contained in the cavity (7) by a groove and sealing arrangement (12) which is continuous around the tile perimeter.
