Abstract

The invention concerns an apparatus and method for detecting and removing foreign bodies from chopped and/or pulped vegetables, in particular from pulped tomatoes in which a layer of pulp, carried by a rotating belt, is allowed to fall onto an underlying collecting belt. A pair of remote cameras scan the material while it is falling, from both directions, noting point by point the colour of the image. When a remote camera detects the passage of a foreign body, detectable by its different colour, it generates a signal that activates a jet of air directly into the path of the foreign body that is thus diverted to a separate container. <IMAGE>
