Abstract

Electric motor of the brushless permanent magnet type, suitable for driving circular structures of several metres in diameter, in which the driving structure is subdivided into a plurality of facing and symmetrical segments 1, 5 in such a way as to cancel any electromagnetic attraction between stator and rotor parts and permit their assembly on a structure with limited stiffness which would not be able to support the thrusts on the air gap typical of large conventional motors. Method of crossed and combined segmentation with asymmetries which impede the creation of cyclical torque perturbations (cogging or ripple), typical of large motors, and which are not acceptable for precision movements such as large telescopes, radar antennas and radio telescopes.
