Abstract

A process is described for the manufacture of tubes 15 having varying thickness for motor vehicle frames 16. The process comprises the following stages: a) positioning a set of metal plates 11, 12, 13, 14 having the same width 1 and different thicknesses s1, s2, s3, s4 alongside each other on a common supporting plane 20, b) joining sheets 11, 12, 13, 14 by means of continuous electrical or laser welding along their adjacent edges to obtain a single composite monolithic sheet 10 having a variable thickness s, c) producing a tube 15 of a thickness which varies in a discrete way along its own longitudinal axis from the said composite sheet 10, d) welding tube 15 to other parts making up the frame 16 of a motor vehicle. <IMAGE>
