Abstract
A process for producing tinned sheet steel suitable for the manufacture of cold drawn and pressed cans, which eliminates the annealing stage which is necessary in other processes of manufacture. The steel sheet comprises a steel containing specific traces of carbon (from 0.01% to 0.06% by weight), silicon (less than 0.03%), manganese (from 0.1% to 0.4%), sulphur (from 0.01% to 0.03%), aluminium (from 0.02% to 0.10%), nitrogen (less than 0.006%) and phosphorus (less than 0.03%), and is hot- rolled, pickled, cold-rolled and then tinned. This sheet steel has excellent formability and high corrosion resistance.
