Abstract

Process for the disposal of polychlorobiphenyls (PCB) in which the PCB are treated with an aqueous solution of H2O2 in the presence of iron (II) ions, possibly in association with Cu (II) ions as catalysts, and a phase transfer agent. The process brings about virtually complete oxidation of the PCB with the formation of non- toxic substances and a high degree of mineralization of the chlorine atoms.
