Abstract

Catalyst for the photo-decompsn. of water comprises particles of TiO2 doped with Nb and contg. RuO2 on the surface. Amt. of Nb (calculated as Nb2O5) is pref. 0.001-10 wt.% on TiO2 wt., and amt. of RuO2 is pref. 0.001-10 wt.% on TiO2 wt. The TiO2 particle size is pref. 50 Angstroms to 10 micron. High photo-decompsn. yields are obtd. The catalyst may be used, e.g. in combination with a colloidal Pt catalyst and an Ru trisbipyridyl and methylviologen redox system.
