Abstract

The capacitor body (B) is encapsulated (r) and is held spaced from the aluminium container (A) by ribs. The body is entirely surrounded (C) by gas, such as air, or a fluid which acts, when e.g. overheating or a short-circuit occurs to transmit the increased pressure to the lid (D) in an end of the container formed with corrugations to permit expansion. A plastics insert may also be located in the space (C). Movement of the lid causes at least one of the capacitor conductors (F,F'), which pass through it, to break and thus electrically isolate the capacitor.
