Abstract

Method comprises introducing the material into a mould, expanding it so that the material in one end is not fully expanded, introducing fresh material in contact with the partially expanded material, then fully expanding the fresh and partially expanded material in the contact zone. Esp. for prodn. of items from polystyrene moulding beads which only become fully welded when fully expanded in the mould. Lengths of expanded polystyrene cannot be welded together by steam because the steam causes fully expanded beads to partially collapse. (Provisional Basic previously advised in Week 8408)
