Abstract
Self-extinguishing polycarbonates compsns. contains at least one salt of carboxylic organic cpds. of formula (I), or their mixts., the salt being of metals of Gps. IA, IB, IIA and/or IIB and/or of ammonium. In the formula, A1 and A2, same or different, represent a polycondensed benzene or aromatic, heterocyclic or (cyclo)aliphatic radical; B1 and B2 same or different, are substits. e.g. halogen, nitrile, nitro, sulpho, imido, ether, ester, ketone, acid halide, (cyclo)alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic; m and n, same or different, are 0-5 but at least one A1 or A2 radical must be present; Z1 and Z2 same or different, can vary 0-6; i can be 0 or 1; when the cpd. (I) is satisfied with a metal as earlier, X is a di or polyradical chosen from -S-, -S-S-, -SO-, -SO2-, -SO2SO2-, -SO2SO-, -SO2S-, -O-, -CO-, -CS-, -COO-, -CONH-, -CONR-, -CONRCO-, =(CO)2N-, -NHCONH-, -NHCONR-, -NHCSNH-, -NR-CS-NR-CONHRNHCO-, -CONR1-R-NR2CO-, -NR1RR2N-, =N-R-N=, where R, R1 and R2, same or different, indicate a linear or branched (cyclo)aliphatic aryl incl. polycondensed, or heterocyclic radical, or a gp. (B1)z1-(A1)s1-(COOH)m when the cpd. (I) is satisfied with an amino gp. X is a di- or polyradical chosen from -CONHRNHCO-, -CONR1-R-NR2CO-, -NR1RR2N-, or =N-R-N=. The self-extinguishing property is improved without negatively influencing their thermal stability under transformation or application conditions, or the other properties peculiar to these polymers.
