Abstract

Moisture crosslinkable isobutylene/triene(s) copolymer is characterised by the presence of attached gps. of formula X3-a-Si(Ra) (I) (R is 1-10C monovalent hydrocarbon gp.; X is halogen, alkoxy, alkoxyalkoxy, phenoxy, thioalkoxy, acyloxy, amino, aminooxy, oxime or silanoxy and a is 0, 1 or 2). Pref. the triene is of formula (II) (R1-R3 are each H, alkyl, aryl, alkylaryl, arylalkyl or cycloalkyl and B is a divalent organic gp, the conjugated d.bond system opt. belonging to a ring. The copolymer pref. contains 0.1-30 wt.% attached vinyl gps. Prepn. of the copolymers is also claimed. The copolymers can range from high mol.wt., elastic, nontacky copolymers to low mol.wt., viscous and tacky copolymers. They can be used for sealants, sheaths, coatings or films.
