Abstract
Press. swing adsorption unit for sepg. a gas mixt. comprises x (x is >=3) zones of absorbent material which selectively adsorbs one component of the mixt., y (y is 2 to x-1) of the zones constituting a sepn. section. Prodt. gas is recovered from the last zone of the sepn. section. In use each zone of the unit is in successive stages made in the last zone of the sepn. section and in subsequent stages progressed along the section until it becomes the first zone. It is then removed from the sepn. section and regenerated for incorporation into the sepn. section as the last zone in a subsequent stage. Used for (1) recovery of CH4 from natural gas, (2) purificn. of NH3 from synthesis gas and (3) reclamation of He used in life support systems for diving operations.
