Abstract
Process for the prepn. of glass articles, esp. optical prods. comprises (1) forming an anhydrous glass with an oxide compsn. (in mol. %) of 72-82% SiO2, 10-17% Na2O and/or K2O, 5-15% ZnO and/or PbO; (2) hydrating the glass to a water content of 0.5-10 wt.% and (3) shaping the glass at 250-500 degrees C and 280-1400 kg/cm2 against at least one die.
