Abstract

In order to reduce the weight of a tool engaging part and thus the weight of a housing thereby improving fuel consumption and reducing the manufacturing cost this glow plug (1) is equipped with: a tubular housing (2) having a shaft hole (4) extending in the direction of the axis line (CL1) and having on the outer circumferential surface a threaded part (5) for screwing into an attachment hole of an internal combustion engine; and a heater member (3) that is inserted into the shaft hole (4) in a state wherein at least the tip part of the heater member protrudes from the tip end of the housing (2). The housing (2) has a tool engaging part (6) that is provided farther to the rear end than the threaded part (5) and is engaged by a tool when the glow plug is installed in an internal combustion engine. The shape of the inner circumference of the tool engaging part (6) matches the shape of the outer circumference of the tool engaging part (6).
