Abstract

A temperature controllable tank container (1) comprises a cylindrical tank (3) mounted between front and rear end frames (14) and (15). A refrigerating unit (42) is mounted in the front end frame (14). An insulating shell (44) is provided around the tank (3). Side ducts (45) for carrying chilled air from the refrigerating unit (42) are provided in similar locations on each side of the tank (3) for chilling the tank and in turn the contents of the tank (3). Chilled air is returned to the refrigerating unit (42) through top ducts (46) also provided between the insulating shell (44) and the tank (3). The side ducts (45) and top ducts (46) are connected by a chamber (47) formed between an end cap (7) of the tank (3) and an end cap (66) of the insulating shell (44).
