Abstract

1514479 Prosthetic joints CHAS F THACKRAY Ltd and R A ELSON 29 Sept 1975 [1 Oct 1974] 42621/74 Heading A5R A prosthetic joint, especially a knee joint, comprises a tibial member including a metal stem I rotatably mounted in a plastics sleeve 5 fixed in the tibia 3, and a femoral member forming a hinge-type connection with an upper extension 4 of stem 1, whereby relative rotation is permitted between the bones of the joint about the longitudinal axis of the tibia. The sleeve 5 has an integral tapered peg 8, sleeve 5 and peg 8 having annular grooves 9 to assist in keying bone cement 11 thereto. In a modification, the stem is made of plastics and the sleeve of metal. The femoral member may be as described in Specification 1349587. [GB1514479A]
