1462450 2 - Halogeno - 5 - phenyl - 3H - 1,4- benzodiazepines ASTA-WERKE AG 23 Dec 1974 [1 Feb 1974] 55598/74 Heading C2C Novel 2 - halogeno - 5 - phenyl - 3H - 1,4- benzodiazepines of Formula I: where Hal is a halogen atom and the rings A and B may contain one or more substituents selected from halogen, trifluoromethyl, nitro, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, C - -C 6 alkoxy, C 1 -C 6 alkoxycarbonyl, C 1 -C 6 alkyl mercapto, C 1 -C 6 alkyl sulphonyl and cyano, are prepared by reacting a compound of formula with a compound of formula Hal-CO-Hal or Hal-CS-Hal in the presence of an inert organic solvent and in the absence of moisture. The compounds of Formula I are intermediates for the production of therapeutically interesting compounds, e.g. 2,7-dichloro-5-phenyl-3H-1,4- benzodiazepine may be reacted with methylamine to obtain 7-chloro-2-methylamino-5- phenyl-3H-1,4-benzodiazepine which is an anxiolytic.
