Abstract

1431047 Packaging GIST-BROCADES NV 8 May 1973 [9 May 1972] 21542/72 Heading B8C A method of packaging under sub-atmospheric pressure dried lining materials capable of adsorbing, or absorbing, gas, comprises inserting the dried lining material into a gasimpermeable envelope, or container, introducing into the envelope, or container, a gas, or a mixture of gases, non-injurious to the keeping qualities of the dried lining material and capable of being adsorbed, or absorbed, by it and, after partial and before complete adsorption, or absorption of the gas or gases by the dried lining material, sealing the envelope, or container, with the resultant production of a subatomospheric pressure within the envelope, or container, by adsorption, or absorption, of the gas by the dried lining material. The method is particular useful for packaging dried baker's yeast, humus, beer or wine yeast, dried microorganisms, or dried seeds. The preferred gas is carbon dioxide, other suitable gases being ammonia, propane, propylene, ethane, ethylene, or sulphur dioxide. Although pressure-resistant tins may be employed envelopes, made from plastics such as polyesters or polyamides or, laminates of such plastics materials with a metal foil, e.g. aluminium alloy, are preferably employed. Examples are described to illustrate the invention. [GB1431047A]
