Abstract

1430083 Apparatus for use in securing a prosthesis NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 5 March 1973 [8 March 1972] 10794/72 Heading A5R An apparatus for compacting cement used to secure a prosthetic device in a concavelyrelieved site in a bone, comprises an elongate compacting member formed by a shaft 11 and by a nose piece 10 for application to the cement in one area within the site, and a resilient sealing member 13 which is inflatable by the supply of pressurised liquid and which is connected around said nose piece 10 to substantially seal the remaining area of the site and reduce outward escape of the cement when pressurised by a force applied through said shaft 11 to said nose piece 10. The embodiment shown is particularly suitable for application to cement provided in an acetabular bone cavity. As shown, the sealing member 13 is inflated in use, to engage the rim of the bone cavity by liquid supplied by means of a piston-and-cylinder arrangement. [GB1430083A]
