Abstract

1413117 Laminates J REARDON 19 Jan 1973 [21 Jan 1972 13 Oct 1972] 2923/72 and 47325/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division B2] A composite wall board comprises a sheet of wallboard which is plasterboard, plywood, hardboard or asbestos board, bonded to a layer of expanded plastics material, e.g. polystyrene, totally enclosed in a coating of bituminous material which also bonds the layers together. In Fig. 2 a strip of expanded polystyrene of fully compressed form is fed from reel 4 through dip-tank 5 supplied with bituminous material from vessel 7 and is pressed by roller 2 against plasterboard fed from a supply stack by conveyer 1. The polystyrene strip is parted by cutter 9 at the junction between two consecutive plasterboards and bituminous material applied to the cut edges by an end-sealing device coupled to the cutter. Fine grit or other particulate material is deposited on the coating while it is still wet from hopper 10 and becomes embedded in the coating and the composite board is then dried by passage through drying oven 3 having infra-red heaters 11. Plasterboards may be treated in pairs by duplicating the supply reel, dip-tank, pressure roller, cutter and gritter beyond the arrangement of these members in Fig. 2 and interposing an inverting mechanism between these two sets of members so that after parting and edge sealing the pair of plasterboards with one layer of coated polystyrene on one of the boards is inverted as a whole to bring the other plasterboard to the upper position ready for the application thereto of the second strip of coated polystyrene and passage under the second pressure roller with subsequent parting off and edge sealing of the second strip. The pair of composite boards is then conveyed into the drying oven and not separated until required for use. [GB1413117A]
