Abstract
1406094 Detergent compositions COLGATEPALMOLIVE CO 29 Aug 1972 [1 Sept 1971 12 Nov 1971 22 May 1972] 40007/72 Heading C5D A detergent composition comprises (a) a water-soluble sulphate detergent having a long aliphatic chain and an ether linkage in which an oxygen of the sulphate group and the oxygen of the ether linkage are directly attached to adjacent carbon atoms, (b) sodium silicate, (c) a non-ionic detergent and (d) water-soluble antiredeposition polymer, the weight ratio of (a): (b) being from 3 : 1 to 1 : 3, the weight ratio of (a) : (c) being from 15 : 1 to 4 : 1, the weight ratio of (a) : (d) being from 90 : 1 to 6 : 1, and the amount of (c) being at least 4% of the total weight of (a) plus (b). Component (a) is an alkyl ethoxymer sulphate, a methoxy alkyl sulphate or a mixture thereof. The sulphate may be replaced in part by the alkylbenzene sulphonate detergent of Specification 1,404,161 or by the olefin sulphonate or paraffin sulphonate of Specification 1,404,162 provided the aforesaid relationships between the sulphate detergent (a) and the other ingredients (b), (c) and (d) are still satisfied. Component (a) is in the form of an alkali metal, NH 4 , C 1 -C 4 alkylamine or C 1 -C 4 alkanolamine salt. Component (c) is an ethylene oxide condensate of a C 10 -C 16 alkanol or an ethylene oxide-propylene oxide condensate of such an alcohol. Component (d) is sodium carboxymethylcellulose. Optional ingredients are (f) alkali metal carbonate up to 5% based on component (a); (g) bleach, e.g. sodium perborate and sodium hypochlorite; (h) organic builders, e.g. trisodium nitrilotriacetate; (i) dyestuffs and others, e.g. optical brightening agents.
