Abstract

1350268 Moulding friction elements ABEX CORP 19 April 1971 [21 April 1970] 27008/71 Heading B5A Friction elements such as brake shoes or linings are moulded from a composition having fillers including at least 5 % by weight of asbestos fibres and a thermosetting resin binder, the composition being placed in a die cavity conforming in shape to the desired element and subjected in a first stage to a constant pressure for a sufficient time to expel all air entrapped in the composition, and thereafter, in a second stage, gradually increasing the initial pressure to a value producing the desired density for the composition; the thus pressed article is then stripped from the die cavity and heated to cure the binder. The fillers may include cast iron, graphite and alumina particles. [GB1350268A]
