Abstract
1,253,762. Cracking hydrocarbons. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP. 29 Dec., 1969 [15 Jan., 1969], No. 63054/69. Heading C5E. A process for preparing furnace oil from waxy gas oil comprises: (a) subjecting a waxy gas oil fraction to catalytic cracking under conditions effecting conversion of not less than 30 vol. per cent based on fresh feed, (b) separating from the catalytic cracking effluent a light gas oil having a pour point of 0 F. or lower, (c) separating from the catalytic cracking effluent an intermediate gas oil having an inital boiling point corresponding to the end point of the light gas oil of step (b) and an end point in the range of 650 to 750 F., (d) separating from the catalytic cracking effluent a heavy gas oil fraction having an initial boiling point corresponding to the end point of the intermediate gas oil of step (c), and, (e) passing said intermediate gas oil to said catalytic cracking zone as part of the feed thereto. The light gas oil fraction may have a boiling range of 430-550 F. and a pour point of about 0 F. and the intermediate gas oil fraction may have an initial boiling point of about 550 F. and an end point in the range of 650 to 750 F. In this process the initial boiling point, IBP, of the feed to the catalytic cracking unit is usually above 400 F. The cracking catalyst may comprise a molecular sieve or crystalline alumino-silicate base carrying catalytic metal additives for example cerium or lanthanum or their oxides or sulphides, a natural clay catalyst comprising silica-alumina, a synthetic silica-alumina catalyst or a silicamagnesia catalyst.
