Abstract
1,165,528. Water proof cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 21 Aug., 1968, No. 39926/68. Heading H1A. To waterproof individual cores 1 of a multicore cable and to prevent axial flow of water when a waterproof sheath is damaged, a laminate 2 comprising a plastics layer 3, preferably polyethylene, and a paper layer 4 is wrapped around each core 1 with the paper 4 innermost and the outer edge sealed at 5, and interstices in the cable are filled with a non-hardening, insulating water-impervious jelly, preferably petroleum jelly. The edge is sealed at 5 by adhesive or the application of heat.
