Abstract

[Also in Division C5G] A method of compacting peat into a unitary mass the steps of reducing the moisture content of the peat to between 10 and 20% by weight on a dry basis and compressing this peat at a pressure between 1000 and 2000p.s.i. for 1 to 5 minutes at a temperature between 80‹ and 120‹C. Plant seeds and fertilizers may be admixed with the peat before compression. The peat may be compressed into sheets or blocks and plant seeds may be covered with powdered peat before introduction into the peat to be compressed. Alternatively plant seeds may be secured to the peat after compression. [GB1259844A]
