Abstract

An identity card comprises a carrier 1 bearing a thin coating 2 of a material suitable for receiving writing and having its surface formed into a pattern 3 which is easily disturbed by, and thus renders apparent, writing or erasive of writing thereon. The carrier 1 may be formed of hard PVC having a glossy surface. The coating 2 is of softer plastics material which may be highly pigmented so that it has a matt or rough surface. The pattern 3 may comprise .perforations which may be letters representing repetitions of a monogram, and pass through the coating 2 as in Fig. 4, or may comprise recesses forming an intaglio pattern (Fig. 6, not shown). The carrier 1 may be of a different color than the coating 2 so that the pattern, when formed as perforations, stands out. The identity card may be punched from a sheet (4), Fig. 5, not shown, on which a plurality of identity cards are printed, the coatings (5) being applied during the printing operation. [GB1249900A]
