Abstract

Tray support apparatus (10) comprises a base (12) an upright member (14) and a pair of support arms (16). A plurality of trays (20) can hang vertically from the support arms (16). A receptacle (22) is provided on the base so as to collect any liquid or food falling from the trays (20). Underneath the base (12) are four support castors 24 which are lockable. <Figure 1>

Description

The present invention relates to a tray support apparatus, in particular to an apparatus for supporting and storing food serving trays in restaurants, canteens, dining rooms and the like.
A major problem exists in busy areas where food and drinks are served on trays, in that spillages occur and can remain on trays when left on tables or stacked one on top of another. As well as being unsightly, this is unhygienic and may lead to problems with bacterial infections and control. Floor spillages and trays left on the floor can lead to health and safety, as well as hygiene issues.
The object of the invention is to provide a tray support apparatus which alleviates the above disadvantages and some of the problems associated with using trays for serving food and drink, thus helping to improve the dining experience for customers and staff.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a tray support apparatus comprising a base, at least one upright member extending from the base and at least one support arm connected to the upright member, the support arm being adapted to retain and hold a plurality of trays in a vertical orientation.
In this way, the trays are hanging from the support arm.
Advantageously, a receptacle is provided beneath the support arm to collect any liquid or 25 food falling from the vertically supported trays.
Ideally, the support arm or arms are formed in a transverse hook formation or U shaped formation to make the trays more secure.
Conveniently, the tray support apparatus is provided with wheels or castors to allow the 5 apparatus to be moved.
Preferably, the wheels or castors are lockable.
Advantageously, the tray support apparatus may be readily disassembled for storage 10 purposes and may be reassembled as required.
The tray support apparatus may be in the form of a carousel. Also it can have a second set of support arms for trays. Furthermore, it can be adjustable in height to suit the circumstances of its location.
Ideally, each tray is provided with an orifice for engaging with the support arm of the tray support apparatus.
The tray support apparatus may be finished in a hygienic grade paint or powder coated finish.
Customers would have the option of hanging their trays on the tray support apparatus after placing their food and drink on the table, eliminating their frustration of where to put their empty trays. The tray support apparatus would make it easier for staff to collect empty trays in one location.
The invention will hereinafter be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show by way of example only, two embodiments of a tray support apparatus according to the invention.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side view of the first embodiment of tray support apparatus, holding a number of trays in a vertical orientation; Figure 2 is a plan view of a tray modified to be used with the tray support apparatus; and Figure 3 is a perspective view of the second embodiment of tray support apparatus.
Referring to the drawings, tray support apparatus 10 comprises a base 12 an upright member 14 and a pair of support arms 16. A plurality of trays 20 can hang vertically from the support arms 16. A receptacle 22 is provided on the base so as to collect any liquid or food falling from the trays 20. Underneath the base 12 are four support castors 24 which are lockable. The receptacle 22 is removable for cleaning purposes.
Figure 2 is a plan view of a typical tray 20 used with the apparatus. It is provided with an orifice or hole 30 which can fit over the arms 16.
In Figure 3, tray support apparatus 110 comprises a base 112 an upright member 114 and a single U-shaped support arm 116. A plurality of trays 20 hang vertically from the support arm 116. A removable receptacle 122 is provided on the base to collect any liquid or food falling from the trays 20. Four lockable castors 124 are provided underneath the base.
The support arm 16 and the support arm 116 are slightly tilted in a direction which prevents the trays from falling off. The removable receptacles 22 and 122 are made from a food grade plastics material. Component parts of the apparatus may be made of stainless steel or metal coated in hygienic grade paint or powder coated finish.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details described herein which are given by way of example only and that various modifications and alterations are possible without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
