Abstract

A process for the preparation of coal-containing sludge pellets, which can be used as fertilizer or fuel, comprises incorporating in sewage or sludge size-adjusted fine dust coal, which has such a particle size distribution that 30 to 70% by weight of the whole particles have a particle size of 9 to 150 mesh (Tyler Standard) and 70 to 30% by weight of the whole particles have a particle size of 150 to 500 mesh (Tyler Standard), thereby to separate the mixture into purified water and a coal-containing sludge concentrate, removing water from this coal-containing sludge concentrate according to the self-precoat filtering method, continuously dehydrating the resulting cake under a reduced pressure or in vacuum while imparting vibrations to the cake layer in the direction of the thickness thereof, and extruding the resulting dehydrated cake having a water content lower than 50% by weight under compression and shear to form coal- containing sludge pellets having a water content lower than 30% by weight.
