Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to bedding or down quilts for sleep.
Disclosure of Invention
According to the present invention, there is provided a quilt comprising a quilt cover and a quilt body for use therein. The quilt cover includes an upper panel and a lower panel, a plurality of peripheral openings formed between the upper and lower panels, and a pair of cooperating upper and lower fasteners disposed at each opening in the upper and lower panels, respectively. The quilt body includes peripheral portions adjacent the opening when the quilt body is used inside the quilt cover, each peripheral portion being engageable by a respective pair of upper and lower fasteners to hold the quilt body in place relative to the quilt cover. Each peripheral portion has an aperture through the quilt body through which the respective upper and lower fasteners are secured together to engage the peripheral portion.
Preferably, each aperture has an edge reinforced by a suture sewn around it.
More preferably, the edges of each hole are reinforced by lock stitching.
Preferably, each pair of upper and lower fasteners comprises cooperating snap fasteners.
Preferably, each pair of upper and lower fasteners is provided on successive edge portions of the upper and lower panels, respectively.
In a preferred embodiment, the quilt cover has a substantially rectangular shape with two longer sides and two shorter sides, and includes one said peripheral opening and an associated pair of fasteners adjacent each corner.
More preferably, the quilt cover includes three said peripheral openings and associated pairs of fasteners at the mid-length of each of two longer sides and one shorter side, the other shorter side being openable for insertion of the quilt body into the quilt cover.
Drawings
The present invention will now be described more particularly, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
FIG. 1 is an upper perspective view of an embodiment of a quilt according to the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a lower perspective view of the quilt shown in FIG. 1 folded along its length;
FIG. 3 is an upper perspective view of one corner of the quilt of FIG. 1, showing its structure with a quilt cover and a double layer quilt body located therein;
FIG. 4 is a schematic view showing a hole through the quilt body of FIG. 3 reinforced by lockstitch sewing;
FIG. 5 is an upper perspective view corresponding to FIG. 3, illustrating how the quilt body is fixed inside the quilt cover;
FIG. 6 is an upper perspective view corresponding to FIG. 4, illustrating the quilt body (not visible) secured inside the quilt cover;
FIG. 7 is a cross-sectional side view of the quilt corner of FIG. 6; and
FIG. 8 is a cross-sectional side view of a quilt corner similar to FIG. 7, showing a single-layer quilt body secured inside the quilt cover.
Detailed Description
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a quilt 10 embodying the present invention, the quilt 10 including a quilt cover 20 and a quilt body 30 for use inside the quilt cover 20. The quilt cover 20 has a hollow flat body formed by a top panel 21 and a bottom panel 22 stitched together along respective sequential edge portions or stitched-on hems 21 'and 22' (fig. 7). The top panel 21 is cross-stitched with an intermediate layer of artificial wool, down or feathers so that the quilt cover 20 itself can be used alone as a quilt for keeping warm in less cold weather.
The quilt body 30 is composed of two sheets or blankets 31 made of artificial wool or the like. Two or one of the blankets 31 may be used inside the quilt cover 20 (fig. 8 and 7) as needed to maintain additional warmth.
The quilt cover 20 is generally rectangular with two opposite longer sides and two opposite shorter sides and comprises an open shorter side 23 for insertion of the quilt body 30, which is equipped with cooperating plastic (or metal) snap fasteners (press studs) 50 at regular positions to close, in particular hold, the quilt body 30 inside.
Seven peripheral openings 24 are formed at or near the four corners and at mid-length of the other three sides of the quilt cover 20. The opening 24 is formed by not stitching together along the hems 21 'and 22' of the two quilt panels 21 and 22 over a relatively short length. Cooperating snap fasteners 50 are secured to the respective opposed flanges 21 'and 22' of each opening 24 to secure them together to close or restrict the opening 24.
Each blanket 31 of the quilt body 30 has a generally rectangular shape and includes seven peripheral portions 51 at or near the four corners and mid-length of each of the two longer and one shorter sides. Each peripheral portion 51 is perforated with holes 52 having edges which are sewn with stitches around it, and more particularly by lock stitch or wrap stitch (fig. 4), to reinforce or protect the edges.
In use, blanket 31 is inserted into quilt cover 20 through its open shorter side 23 (fig. 3) and then stretched and positioned so that their peripheral portions 51 are aligned with respective openings 24 of quilt cover 20 (fig. 5). Each opening 24 is closed or restricted by an associated snap fastener 50 that engages or snaps together through the holes 52 of the aligned portions 51 when the peripheral portions 51 are held at or adjacent the respective opening 24 (fig. 7 or 8). The entire quilt body 30 is thus secured and retained by the snap fasteners 50 in the quilt cover 20 and in position relative to the quilt cover 20.
When the snap fastener 50 is secured to the successive hems 21 'and 22' of panels 21 and 22, they are hidden from view between the edges of the panels 21 and 22.
The invention has been given by way of example only, and various modifications and/or alterations to the described embodiments may be made by persons skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
