Description
The present invention relates to a lock device for mounting to a door or similar structure. The device consists of a shell-shaped cover, which is provided with a front plate and comprises a lock bolt, an operating shaft and a force transmission piece, wherein a follower is arranged on the operating shaft, and the follower can be operated by a key to rotate a lock mechanism at least from one side of a door; the follower may transmit force to the lock bolt through the force transmitter,
the distance of the actuating shaft from the front plate of the lock, which determines the position of the actuating device of the lock, is substantially different in different situations where locking is required. There is therefore a need for different types of lock devices. On the other hand, it is also effective when someone wants to operate the locking mechanism with a key, and the cylinder lock is to meet different locking criteria which influence the shape of the force transmission members that are operated and respectively located in the lock device. The number of different locks required will therefore be large, which increases the cost of manufacture, the product to be stored and the consequent price of the raw material.
The object of the present invention is to provide a new type of lock device, by means of which the above-mentioned disadvantages are removed, while retaining the advantages. It is a further object of the invention to provide a solution of the kind described for a lock device with an electromagnetically operated locking device, the operating principle of which corresponds to the operation of the lock bolt disclosed in the patent publication GB-a-2203794.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a lock device for mounting to a door or similar structure. According to the invention, a lock device is provided for mounting on a door or the like, the operating shaft of which is mounted on a separate follower unit designed to be fixed separately to the lock device, so that its distance to the front plate is adjustable. By this measure a basic lock device can be used, wherein in each case there is a follower unit that meets different requirements, and furthermore when the distance of the follower unit to the front plate is adjustable, each key-operated cylinder lock or lock mechanism that meets different lock criteria can utilize its own follower unit, the distance of which to the front plate varies only as required.
In practice, it is preferable to adjust said distance, depending on the fact that one or more adjustment members are mounted between the front plate and the follower unit. In this embodiment, the follower unit is preferably fixed to the front plate by means of screws, which may also be used for fixing the adjustment member. For the purpose of fixing, openings are provided in the adjusting element for the screws.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention the follower unit is provided with a force transmitter which is movable by the follower and which, when the follower unit is secured to the lock device, engages with a first force transmitter in the lock device by use of its force transmitting surface, the first force transmitter being dimensioned in the adjustment direction of the follower unit so that they remain in mutual force transmitting engagement along the entire range of adjustment required.
The follower unit is most formed in a shell shape, and its inner surface serves as a guide surface for guiding the movement of a force transmission member, which is located inside the front plate side.
In order to secure the follower unit in the lock device, the follower unit is partially mounted in the lock housing to support the follower unit in the direction of the actuating shaft. Furthermore, the follower unit and the lock housing are provided with guides or guide surfaces which cooperate with one another in order to support the follower unit in the longitudinal direction of the front plate.
The invention is preferably such that the lock device is provided with a spring bolt which is lockable and which, when the locking is released, can be pressed inside the lock device to open or close the door. The invention is also equipped with a coil arrangement which acts on the force transmission member for locking. In this embodiment, the force transmission element in the locking device comprises a second force transmission element, on which both the coil arrangement and said first force transmission element can act, respectively.
The present invention will be described in detail below by way of examples with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figures 1a-1e show an embodiment of the lock device of the invention in side view, in which the lock housing and the basic components, respectively, are shown when the device is opened; FIG. 1c is a left side view showing a portion of FIG. 1 b;
fig. 2 shows the lock device of fig. 1 in a basic form assembled state, without any adjuster according to fig. 1d or 1e, and with the locking element in a released state;
fig. 3 shows the lock device of fig. 1 with an adjustment member, wherein the auxiliary bolt is in the extended position and the locking member is in the release position;
fig. 4 shows the lock device of fig. 1 with four separate adjustment members, wherein the locking member is in the locked position.
Fig. 1 shows a lock device mounted to a door or similar structure, to which a separate follower unit 2 is secured by means of screws 4, either directly or by using one or more adjustment members 3a and/or 3b provided with openings 3a 'and 3 b' for the screws. With these two types of adjustment members 3a and 3b having different thicknesses, it is possible in practice to provide a lock device with sufficient accuracy in accordance with the dimensional requirements in different applications.
The lock device 1 comprises a front plate 6, a locking bolt 7, an auxiliary locking bolt 8, a locking member and some force transmitters, which will be described below. The blocking bolt 7 and the auxiliary blocking bolt 8 are sprung out of the lock device 1 by the springs 22 and 26 to the protruding position. The bolt 7 is of the type comprising a bevel on both ends so that the locking member can be pushed from its extended position to a release position against a striker plate on a door frame (not shown) against a spring 22 in the lock device 1 for opening or closing the door. This part is disclosed in GB-a-2203794, which is hereby incorporated by reference.
The lock device 1 comprises a shell-like lock housing 5, which is shown in the figures together with a largely cut-away cover plate. The follower unit 2 is also shell-shaped, whereby the cover plate parts to be mounted together are fixed to each other by means of screws 9. In fig. 2-4 the follower unit 2 is shown with the upper cover part removed. The follower unit 2 is equipped with a fixing element 10, which fixing element 10 comprises a threaded mouth 10a provided with a thread, whereby the fixing element can be fixed to the front plate 6 by means of the screw 4. The fixing element 10 is bent in an L-shape and thus constitutes part of the housing of the follower unit 2 and at the same time protects the force transmission element located inside it. When the mounted follower unit 2 receives the guidance on the inner surface 5a and the guiding edge 5b of the lock housing 5, the guiding edge 5b cooperates with the guiding edge 11 of the follower unit 2 housing. The guide edge 11 can be pressed, for example, during manufacture, into the housing part of the follower unit 2 or into an edge on a separating plate fixed to the housing.
The follower unit 2 comprises an operable shaft a on which is mounted a follower 12, the follower 12 being rotatable at least from one side of the door by means of a key (not shown) operating the lock mechanism. On the other side of the door, a rotatable handle may be used, for example. In the case of an operating device on both sides of the door, a separate follower 12, which is correspondingly mounted to the operating shaft, is required. In the arrangement shown, rotation is effected in a known manner, such as by a torsion plate or the like acting on one of the followers 12 a.
The follower unit 2 further comprises a force transmission member 13 to which the rotational movement of the follower 12 can be transmitted via a force transmission surface 12b, whereby the force transmission member 13 can be moved in the downward direction in the figure, guided by an inner surface 10b in the stationary part 10 and an inner surface 2a in the housing of the follower unit 2. The force transmission element 13 is then rotated by means of the force transmission surface 13a, and the force transmission element 15 is rotatably supported on the connecting pin 14 of the locking device by means of a counter surface 15 a' on the projection 15 a. The force transmission surface 13a is dimensioned such that it is always in force-transmitting connection with the projection 15a, even when several adjusting elements 3a and/or 3b are used.
The rotational movement of the force transmission element 15 acts via its second projection 15b on the projection 16a of the second force transmission element 16. The force transmission member 16 is rotatably supported on a pin 17 and comprises an additional protruding member 16b which further rotates a locking lever 18 which is rotatably supported on a pin 19, which in the position shown in fig. 4 in connection with the locking is rotated against the force of a spring 20 to the position shown in fig. 1a, 2 and 3, in which the locking is released. The locking bar 18 is thus urged by the spring 20 towards the locking position in which the bar 18 and the spherical locking member 21 act together on the locking face 7a of the bolt to prevent the bolt 7 from moving into the lock device 1. At the same time the locking lever 18 prevents the locking member 21 from moving into the position releasing the bolt 7.
In the shown embodiment the lock device 1 further comprises a coil arrangement 23 with a function 24 which is moved against the spring 25 when a current is applied to the coil arrangement 23. The locking members 18 and 21 are then moved away from their locking positions so that the door can be opened or closed. Accordingly, when there is no current, the spring 25 and the spring 20 together press the functional element 24 and the force transmission element 16 into the position in fig. 4, so that the locking elements 18 and 21 are both in their locking position. The unlocking can be made separately by manual actuation of the shaft a or by electrical control of the coil arrangement 23.
Normally, when the door is closed, the bolt is locked to a strike plate in the door frame (not shown) preventing the auxiliary bolt 8 from moving to its extended position out of the lock arrangement, which is the condition of figures 1a, 2 and 4. In fig. 3, the auxiliary bolt 8 is biased by a spring 26 towards its extended position so that the door can be rotated open. In this position, the guide surface 8a of the auxiliary bolt 8 is pressed into the position shown in fig. 3, which corresponds to the position in fig. 2, by pressing against the projection 15b of the force transmission member 15, wherein the locking members 18 and 21 are prevented from moving into their locking position, as described above. The door can then be closed by pushing up only. The force of the spring 26 is required to achieve the described function of the auxiliary bolt 8 to be greater than the normal force of the springs 25 and 20.
As is evident from fig. 4, after locking, the locking bar 18 then extends from behind the support 16c to the force transmission member 16, whereupon the locking bolt can only be released, whereupon the force transmission member 16 can be turned both manually by means of the manoeuvring axis a and by means of the action of the coil arrangement 23.
In fig. 2-4, the distance of the steering axis a from the front plate 6 is derived by a number of examples, thus showing the adjustment position for the mounting of the follower 2 according to the invention. The possibility of adjustment described is naturally completely independent of the spring latch position shown in the figures, which only show the best application of the invention.
Correspondingly, when one wishes to install the operating device according to different lock standards, it is possible according to the invention to select in each embodiment a suitable follower unit 2 with, for example, followers 12 and other force-transmitting members, which follower unit 2 needs to be dimensioned to meet the standards. However, the invention makes it possible to fit several different follower units 2 in the same basic lock device 1. Naturally, by means of the invention also a system is created, which comprises several lock devices 1 and different followers 2 to be mounted, for different applications and to meet different lock standards.
The direction in which the coil arrangement is operated, for example, whether the coil is pushed or pulled, can be selected as desired. In the case of a different actuation direction than the embodiment shown in the figures, naturally, the actuation of other parts of the force transmission device must be taken into account.
The invention is not limited to the embodiments shown, but can be modified in several ways within the scope of the patent protection sought.
