Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a coating applicator, and more particularly to a hollow tubular coating device for storing and releasing two liquids.
Background
Applicator applicators typically have a tubular handle with an absorbent applicator tip attached to one or both ends of the tubular handle. The applicator tip may be made of cotton or a foam absorbent material. The tubular handle may be made of wood, paper, or plastic material, and may be solid or hollow.
The application of the applicator is numerous. The applicator is a convenient and sanitary application means for applying various substances such as liquids, lotions, creams or other various chemicals and medicaments. The dry applicator tip is typically contacted with the application liquid to absorb the liquid, and the wetted applicator tip is then contacted with the application surface to absorb the liquid. U.S. patent No. 5,702,035 (caochow), wherein a hollow tubular handle contains a liquid which can then be released to the applicator tip for application. However, the applicator with the hollow tubular handle of U.S. patent No. 5,702,035 can only hold one liquid. Some applications require two different liquids to be stored separately and mixed or used sequentially prior to use.
Disclosure of Invention
The present invention is an applicator for two liquids having a hollow elongated tubular handle with a closed end and an open end with an applicator tip attached to one or both ends of the hollow elongated tubular handle. An opening mechanism is provided adjacent the closed end of the hollow elongate tubular handle. The first liquid contained within the hollow elongated tubular handle is separated from the open end by a viscous substance and the second liquid is absorbed into the applicator tip. When air enters the proximal closed end through the opening mechanism and the applicator tip is only partially wetted with the second liquid, the first liquid in the hollow elongated tubular handle flows out through the viscous substance to mix with the second liquid in the applicator tip for application. If the applicator tip is completely saturated with the second liquid, the first liquid will not immediately flow into the applicator tip, but rather a portion of the second liquid is consumed after application before the first liquid flows into the applicator tip.
Drawings
Figure 1 is a schematic view of an embodiment of the applicator of the present invention containing two liquids.
Detailed Description
FIG. 1 shows a preferred embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, the applicator for two liquids comprises a hollow elongate tubular handle 1 having a closed end 2 and an open end 3. The applicator tip 4 is attached to the open end 3 of the hollow elongate tubular handle 1. A first liquid 5 is contained within the hollow elongate tubular handle 1 and is separated from the open end 3 by a viscous substance 6. The adhesive substance 6 is preferably silicone, but other suitably adhesive substances may be used. An opening mechanism 7, such as a score line, is located adjacent the closed end 2.
The second liquid is absorbed by the applicator tip 4. If the second liquid is non-volatile, such as being an oil-based liquid, no further packaging is required for the applicator tip 4 to prevent evaporation of the second liquid. If the second liquid is volatile, such as a water-based liquid or alcohol, additional packaging may be required to prevent evaporation of the second liquid from the applicator tip 4.
Furthermore, if the applicator tip 4 is completely saturated with the second liquid, the applicator tip 4 acts as a stopper to prevent the first liquid 5 from flowing out at the first time of opening. The second liquid should be used first at this first time. The first liquid 5 will only begin to flow into the applicator tip for subsequent application until a portion of the second liquid is consumed. This embodiment is particularly suitable for the case where a first liquid, such as a rust remover or a cleaner, is applied before a second liquid, such as a lubricant or a protective agent, is applied. The applicator tip 4 may also be partially wetted with a second liquid to allow the first liquid 5 to pass through and out of the hollow elongated tubular handle 1 to mix with the second liquid for simultaneous application. This embodiment is particularly suitable for applications where two separate liquids must be mixed for common use.
When the hollow elongate tubular handle 1 is opened at the opening means 7, the first liquid flows through the viscous substance 6 and then into the absorbent tip 4 of the applicator for mixing with the second liquid. The viscous substance 6 is distributed and attached to the inside of the hollow elongated tubular handle 1 and remains mainly in its original position.
In summary, the preferred embodiments of the present invention are not intended to limit the scope of the invention, and all equivalent changes and modifications made in the claims of the present invention should be covered by the claims of the present invention.
