Description

The present invention relates to a dietary supplement as claimed in claim 1, which is intended to be used as a preventative agent for eye disease and/or to assist in the treatment of eye disease and contains alpha-lipoic acid and anthocyanides as active ingredients.
It is known that both the human and animal organisms are capable of synthesizing alpha-lipoic acid, which is well absorbed by oral administration and rapidly converted into the reduced form dihydrolipic acid in many tissues.
Alpha-lipoic acid, as well as its reduced form, acts as a potent antioxidant in fat and water-soluble media. Alpha-lipoic acid is used as an active substance in the treatment of diabetic neuropathies, and is also used to treat reperfusion damage after ischemia, Amanita fungal poisoning, alcoholic liver, to prevent neurological disorders by protecting against oxidative damage to the central nervous system, to suppress HIV replication by inhibiting reverse transcriptase, to protect against the effects of cigarette smoke, and to treat cataracts and glaucoma.
Anthocyanidins are a plant polyphenol found in grapes and blueberries, and they also stabilize collagen fibers, promote collagen biosynthesis, reduce capillary permeability and fragility, and inhibit platelet aggregation.
For example, EP 1 072 365 reveals the use of plant polyphenols in combination with other food supplements for the treatment of iron excess.
US 6103756 reveals a food supplement for the prevention and treatment of grey starch containing α-lipoic acid and blueberry extract.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a food supplement particularly suitable for the prevention and/or support of the treatment of eye diseases, particularly glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
This task is fulfilled by the food supplement of claim 1, which contains as active ingredient a combination of alpha-lipoic acid and anthocyanins, in particular from or in the form of blueberry extract.
The active substance of the food supplement of the invention includes, inter alia, alpha-lipoic acid and anthocyanosides, preferably in the form of blueberry extract or blueberry extract.
Err1:Expecting ',' delimiter: line 1 column 55 (char 54)
Preferably, the food supplement according to the invention shall additionally contain vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B1 and vitamin B12.
The preferred embodiment of the present invention is based on three groups of active substances: (1) Neuroprotection by α-lipoic acid plus vitamin B1 plus vitamin B12.2 Antioxidants (alpha-lipoic acid, vitamin C and vitamin E) 3.
The blueberry extract is characterized by a very high content of anthocyanins.
The combination of the active substances alpha-lipoic acid and anthocyanidins has been shown to be particularly suitable for use in eye diseases, either as a preventive or as an adjunctive measure to treatment. In individual cases, synergistic effects may even be observed. A combination of alpha-lipoic acid, anthocyanidins and vitamins is particularly suitable, with vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B1 and vitamin B12 being preferred.
The food supplement is preferably used for oral administration in the form of tablets, dressing or capsules and contains, in terms of daily dose, a content equivalent to 150 mg alpha-lipoic acid and preferably at least 25 mg anthocyanins from or in the form of blueberry extract as active ingredients.
The food supplement according to the invention also contains vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B1 and vitamin B12. Vitamin E can be used in pure form or as a salt and in artificial or natural form.
The anthocyanid source is a blueberry extract containing between 20 and 25% anthocyanid in a standardised form. Alpha-lipoic acid can be used, for example, in pure form or in a processed form, for example as a granulate containing 69% alpha-lipoic acid, lactose and povidone.
In addition, the food supplement of the invention may contain other active substances such as vitamins, provitamines and coenzymes, which may be selected from the following list of active substances, without limitation: vitamin A1, vitamin A2, retinoids, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, biotin, folic acid, nicotinic acid (((), pantothenic acid, vitamin D2, vitamin D3, vitamin F, vitamin G, vitamin T, vitamin U, vitamin H, vitamin H', vitamin I, vitamin J, vitamin K, vitamin L, vitamin P, vitamin Q, coenzymes A, coenzymes B12, coenzymes F, coenzymes I and II, coenzymes M, coenzymes Q, especially Q10, coenzymes R. Different forms are used depending on the choice of the commercial form of the medicinal product.
The preferred form of the food supplement according to the invention is a film-coated tablet, preferably consisting of a tablet core with a film coating.
In addition to the active substances, the core of the tablet may contain other common auxiliaries, which may be selected from the following list of auxiliaries, without limitation: povidone, cellulose and cellulose derivatives, starch and starch derivatives, stearic acid, gelatine, sodium aluminium silicate, silicon dioxide, maltodextrin, dextrose, talcum, titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate, vegetable fats, tricalcium phosphate, antioxidants, stabilizers, rubber, calcium phosphate, arabicium silicate, sucrose, sodium citrate, citric acid.
The following substances may be used for film coating: cellulose and cellulose derivatives, titanium dioxide, dyes, hydroxypropyl cellulose, talcum, polymethacrylates, shellac, polyvinyl pyrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol, triacetin, triethyl citrate, propylene glycol, glycerol, rubber arabic, talcum, silicon dioxide, glycerol monostearate, preference is given to hydroxy methyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, titanium, cotton, talcum, talcum oxide and dyes (avoid indium oxide, carbamide, alkaloids and karmic acid).
The amount of film applied is 1 to 10%, preferably 2 to 8% and preferably 3 to 6% of the core volume.
According to the invention, the composition, based on the daily dose: 150 mg alpha-lipoic acid100 mg blueberry extract (containing 20 to 25% anthocyanoside)70 mg vitamin C36 mg vitamin E3.6 mg vitamin B19 μg vitamin B12 and microcrystalline cellulose, lactose and magnesium stearate.
Preferably, tablets containing half of the amounts listed above are taken, with a recommended daily intake of 2 tablets.
The dosage forms, e.g. tablet, dragee or capsule, are produced by commonly used methods, e.g. by compaction, granulation and filling in gelatine capsules, etc. For the production of tablets, the core components are usually mixed dry and compressed into tablets, and then the film coating is applied from a suitable solution or suspension of the coating components, e.g. by spraying or varnishing.
The food supplement of the invention is particularly suitable for the prevention and support of eye diseases such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy and may contribute to the improvement of vision, in particular night vision.
