Abstract

A cylinder lock with a cylinder casing 1 and a rotatable cylinder core 2 comprises: a key channel 4 for receiving a flat key 5; followers [25, figure 1] for control faces on the key; locking parts which allow or prevent rotation of the cylinder core 2; and a slidable catch bar 26 located within the cylinder core 2 in a plane across the longitudinal centre plane [7, figure 1] of the cylinder lock. The catch bar 26 comprises a locking arm 27 positioned over the key channel and is movable by the edge of the key 5 and by the spring force 35 between locked and unlocked positions. When the key is only partially inserted in the key channel, a locking flank 30 on the key holds the locking arm in a locking recess 28 in the cylinder casing, thus preventing rotation of the core 2. When the key is fully inserted, as shown in figure 2, the locking arm is positioned opposite a free recess 29 on the key. Upon rotation of the key the locking arm 27 can enter the key recess 29. When the key is rotated, the recess 29 retains the key such that the key cannot be removed [figure 3].
