Abstract

This invention relates to a method and a device for measuring the length and the speed of delivery of yarn in machines for yarn making and winding of single or double - ply yarns. The yarn produced passes from a pair of optical sensors placed at a predetermined distance between them. The electrical signals that are formed depend on the mass of the yarn that passes. The non-uniformity of the mass of the yarn is detected in succession by both sensors. The aforementioned signals are digitised and supplied to an adaptive digital signal cross - correlator which calculates their time difference and consists of a pair of digital signal correlators that process the aforementioned electrical signals driving one another to the region of determination of their time difference with an increasingly higher sensitivity. With the distance between the spatial sensors being given, the speed of delivery of the yarn is calculated and furthermore, the total length of the yarn that passes is also calculated.
