Abstract

993,058. Ring-spinning apparatus. JAMES MACKIE & SONS Ltd. April 10, 1962 [April 25, 1961], No. 14943/61. Heading D1D. In a ring-spinning frame where the spindles are formed or fitted with balloon-restricting heads 19, mechanism is provided to adjust the vertical position of the lappets 24 so that they are closer to their respective heads at the end than at the start of a set. Each lappet is hinged at 31 to a bracket secured to a common spindle 30 which can be moved up and down by an arm 35 depending from a second rockable spindle 36 which has a depending arm 37 fitted with a cam-follower 38. This rides on an inclined surface of a lateral extension of a bar 11 which is connected to the ring-rail 4 by chains 12 passing over pulleys 13. The bar is reciprocated to provide the traverse and steadily moved longitudinally to provide the gain; as it reciprocates, the follower 38 rises and falls with the inclined surface, and as the bar moves longitudinally, the follower changes position to rock the spindle 36 and lower the mean position of the lappets. The inclined surface may be such as to lower the lappets steadily or intermittently without reciprocation or to affect the position of the lappets only in the final stages of the wind. The head 19 may have four radial wings 20 and be mounted on a short extension 18 of the spindle.
