Abstract

992,048. Waveguide impedance transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. June 28, 1963 [Oct. 19, 1962], No. 39631/62. Heading H1W. An adjustable microwave transformer comprises a quarter-wavelength section of deformable waveguide. The invention may be applied to the transformer between the cavity 1 of a magnetron and an output rectangular waveguide 2. A quarter-wave section 3 of narrow waveguide is provided by inserting two blocks 5 into the end of the guide 2 adjacent the cavity 1. The blocks are provided with slots 6 parallel to the broad faces whereby the distance between the opposed broad faces may be adjusted by deforming the metal tongues which remain between the slots and these faces. The slots need not extend the full height of the blocks. The slots are approximately one quarter-wavelength deep and have negligible effect upon the transmission of energy.
