Abstract
991, 899. Twisting, doubling and crimping yarns. HOLBOURN AERO COMPONENTS Ltd. Aug. 16, 1962 [Sept. 5, 1961], No. 31836/61. Headings DID and D1F. Two or more yarns are false-twisted e.g. as part of a crimping process by each of the yarns coming into contact with two rotating wheels 6, 7. The yarns x y pass through feed rollers 3, around a heater 4 of circular drum shape and incorporating multi-start helical grooves in its peripheral surface, to friction wheels 6 and 7 preferably covered by hard rubber or asbestos, and then via feed rollers 10 which may rotate at a different speed from rollers 3 and optionally via a heater 11 similar to but smaller than heater 4, to an eye 12 where the yarns are gathered together and to a down twist spindle unit 13. Shafts 16, 17 on which the friction wheels are mounted rotate in the same or opposite directions, while the size and the spacing of the wheels can be varied to vary the amount of twist. The wheels can be coaxial»with the yarns coming initially into contact with different wheels of the pair-and may be dome shaped as in Fig. 3 (not shown) or be circumferentially grooved as in Fig. 4 (not shown) with guide blades or rollers 15 causing the yarns to enter the grooves. An emulsion roll for applying oil to the yarns may be inserted between heater 11 and eye 12.
