Abstract
Gluconates of trace-metals (i.e. metals which are essential for the lives of plants and animals, but which are required in extremely small quantity) are prepared by reacting in aqueous solution the sulphate of the trace-metal with a slight excess of barium gluconate, removing the precipitated barium sulphate by filtration and isolating the desired gluconate by crystallization. The gluconate solution may be added in two portions, the second portion being added after a period of time.
