Abstract
The invention comprises aqueous suspensions of aluminium oxide containing at least one water-soluble silicic acid ester of formula <FORM:0996707/C1/1> wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are alkylene radicals having 1 to 5 carbon atoms and R5, R6, R7 and R8 are alkyl radicals having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, the aluminium oxide having been prepared by reacting a volatile compound of aluminium in the gas phase at elevated temperature with a gas or gas mixture having an oxidizing and/or hydrolysing action, and their preparation by stirring the aluminium oxide into an aqueous solution of the silicic acid ester, followed by addition of any other constituents. The suspensions may also contain formaldehyde, an alkali or alkali hydrogen carbonate, and conventional additives used in the treatment of textiles, e.g. wetting agents, plasticizing agents, emulsifiers, oils, fats, waxes, synthetic resins, fillers, thickening agents, dyestuffs and/or bleaching agents. The suspensions are preferably adjusted to a pH of 3 to 6, by, for example, formic acid or acetic acid.ALSO:Natural and synthetic fibres are rendered non-slipping and cohesive by treatment with an aqueous suspension of aluminium oxide containing at least one water-soluble silicic acid ester of formula <FORM:0996707/D1-D2/1> wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are alkylene radicals having 1 to 5 carbon atoms and R5, R6, R7 and R8 are alkyl groups having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, the aluminium oxide having been prepared by reaction of a volatile compound of aluminium in the gas phase at elevated temperature with a gas or gas mixture having an oxidising and/or hydrolysing action. The suspensions may also contain formaldehyde, an alkali or alkali hydrogen carborate, or conventional additives used in the treatment of textiles, e.g. wetting agents, plasticisers, emulsifiers, oils, waxes, fats, synthetic resins, fillers, thickening agents, dyestuffs and/or bleaching agents. The suspensions are preferably adjusted to a pH of 3 to 6 by, for example, formic acid or acetic acid. Textile impregnation is preferably effected on a Jigger or Foulard machine, followed by removal of excess liquid and drying at ordinary or elevated temperatures. Examples relate to the treatment of viscose rayon, "Perlon" (Registered Trade Mark), and a nylon-cotton mixed fabric.
