Abstract

Contiguous monofilament, multifilament, or staple fibre nylon yarns in parallel relationship e.g. overlapping ends, are joined together by coating or impregnating the yarns with a solution of chloral hydrate and then heating the yarns by conduction, convection or radiation, optionally with applied pressure and/or positive cooling, to effect thermo-chemical union thereof. The solution may be in water, lower saturated aliphatic monohydroxy alcohols e.g. methanol, halogenated alkanols or lower dialkyl ethers and it may be applied by spraying, brushing, padding, or dipping the yarns individually or collectively. The apparatus, Figs. 1-3 (not shown) and its method of use are as described in Specification 961,763.
