Abstract

996,333. Liquid fuel burners. FETOK G.m.b.H. Feb. 16, 1962 [May 3, 1961], No. 6089/62. Heading F4T. A liquid fuel burner for heating furnaces has a multi-jet injection nozzle 5 arranged to inject liquid fuel in finely atomized condition and in almost non-atomized condition alternately. The burner comprises a hollow body 1 having an aperture closable by a needle 2 slidable in a sleeve 8 which with a partition 7 divides the body 1 into two chambers 9, 10. The chambers 9, 10 are alternately supplied with continuously pressurized or intermittently pressurized fuel from a common feed pipe 13 through alternately open closure devices 14, 15. Fuel admitted to the chamber 10 passes through a bore 16 in the needle 2 to be injected in almost non-atomized form, and fuel admitted to chamber 9 acts against a spring 4 to push the needle backwards to open the aperture whereby atomized fuel is discharged. The needle may oscillate. In a second construction the closure devices 14, 15 are omitted, and each chamber 9, 10 is supplied by a separate pump or by a separate cylinder of a twin cylinder pump. Two pumps may be used to supply the two chambers alternately; the pumps may be synchronized.
