Abstract
<PICT:0996258/C3/1> An organosilicon polymer which is amorphous, insoluble in diethylether, carbontetrachloride, chloroform, acetone, methylethylketone and dimethylformamide, has an elementary analysis (by weight) of carbon, 43-44%; hydrogen, 8.5-9.5%; silicon, 37-38%, with the balance oxygen, and an infra-red absorption spectrum as shown in Fig. 2, is obtained by subjecting hexamethyldisiloxane vapour to the action of a silent electrical discharge, taking place between surfaces of glass, silica or ceramic materials, and allowing it to remain in the discharge zone until solid formation occurs. In the example, hexamethyldisiloxane vapour is subjected to a silent electric discharge to yield a pale yellow solid. Uses: as an anti-radiation material either by itself or compounded with fillers.
