Abstract
Aromatic carbocyclic m- or p-dicarboxylic acid amides of the monomethyl esters are prepared by reacting the corresponding aryl methyl esters with ammonia or a primary or secondary monoamine or diamine. The examples describe an amide, anilide, piperdide, morpholides, decylamides, tetradecylamides, a hexadecylmide, octadecylamides and a C20- 22 fatty amide of methyl esters of acids selected from iso- and terephthalic, methylterephthalic, 2,5 - dichloroterephthalic, 4,41 - diphenyldicarboxylic and 2,6 - naphthalenedicarboxylic acids; and N,N1 - bis (p - carbomethoxybenzoyl) derivatives of ethylene, hexamethylene or p-xylylenediamine. Compounds derived from 5 - chloroisophthalic and the nitroterephthalic acids are also mentioned. Starting materials.-Methyl aryl esters are prepared by heating, at above 160 DEG C. in presence of a catalyst such as a zinc salt of a fatty acid, the appropriate dimethyl ester with the phenol. Details are given for methyl phenyl terephthalate.
