Abstract
The invention comprises monothiophosphoric acid esters of the general formula <FORM:0983886/C2/1> wherein R1 and R2 which may be the same or different, are selected from unsubstituted and substituted alkyl radicals and alkenyl radicals containing up to 4 carbon atoms and "Aryl" is a phenyl radical substituted once, or twice, in the nucleus by halogen atoms, e.g. chlorine, bromine or fluorine, and/or alkyl and/or alkoxy radicals. They may be obtained by reacting the corresponding secondary phosphites (R1O)(R2O)P(O)H with the appropriate sulphenic acid halides ArSCl (or Br). The reaction is preferably carried out in an inert organic solvent and preferably at 15 DEG to 40 DEG C. Suitable solvents are aromatic hydrocarbons and aromatic or aliphatic chlorinated hydrocarbons. If desired an acid-binding agent, e.g. pyridine, may be added. Several examples are given and specified products include the following compounds:- <FORM:0983886/C2/2> The products have pesticidal properties (see Division A5).ALSO:A pest control or plant protection composition comprises a solid or liquid carrier or diluent and a monothiophosphoric acid ester of the general formula <FORM:0983886/A5-A6/1> wherein R1 and R2 which may be the same or different are selected from unsubstituted and substituted alkyl radicals and alkenyl radicals containing up to 4 carbon atoms and "Aryl" is a phenyl radical substituted once or twice in the nucleus by halogen atoms (e.g. Cl, Br or F) and/or alkyl and/or alkoxy radicals (see Division C2). Specified diluents are talc, chalk, bentonite, water (if desired with an emulsifying agent) and acetone. Typical compositions are obtained by dissolving compounds of the formula <FORM:0983886/A5-A6/2> in acetone, adding an emulsifier, and then diluting with water.
