Abstract

983,161. Dynamo-electric machines. HAYDON INSTRUMENT CO. Feb. 16, 1962 [July 13, 1961], No. 6020/62. Heading H2A. An electric rotating machine such as a D.C. motor or generator includes a rotor 12 having a plurality of printed circuit windings on each of the opposed faces of a dielectric supporting disc 15, a common connecting means 17 on one face and which interconnects one end of each of the windings 20 ... 22 on that face, and surface-to-surface conductor means connecting the other end of each of the latter windings to an end of one of the windings 30 ... 32 on the opposite face. As shown, the windings are star-connected by the printed ring forming the connecting means, and their outer ends are connected to printed commutator segments 35 ... 37 against which bear brushes 67, 68 carried by leaf springs 70, 71 within a housing member 73. The disc 15 may be of epoxy resin, through which pass links 45 . . . 47 forming the conductor means. The stator permanent magnet 50 is a high coercivity lowpermeability ferrite, e.g. barium ferrite, has two oppositely magnetized regions 52, 53 producing flux parallel with the machine axis, and is either a ring or two sectors. The magnetized regions may be spaced apart. Magnetically soft plates 55, 60 spaced apart by corner posts 62 support the machine components. Dynamic balancing of the rotor is effected by rotating the shaft 13 at high speed before the hardening of cement 78 fixing the rotor to a bushing 77.
