Abstract
983,079. Advancing mine roof supports. DOWTY MINING EQUIPMENT Ltd. Dec. 3, 1963 [Sept. 4, 1962], No. 33894/62. Heading E1E. [Also in Division F2] In a mine roof support which may be advanced by an hydraulic ram (not shown) and which comprises telescopic props 13 tiltably connected to floor and roof bars 11, 12, each prop is biased upright at one or other end by a combination of metallic and rubber or like spring means. As shown each prop cylinder 16 has a convex end cap 17 and spigot 22 engaging a cup 18 welded to the floor bar 11. The cylinder 16 is embraced by the arms of an open slot 29 in a U-shaped spring 26, Fig. 3, secured to the bar 11, the spring 26 yielding laterally in the plane of Fig. 3. A block 34, Fig. 2, of rubber biases the cylinder 16 along the slot 29 against a plate 31 bolted to the spring 26. In a modification the plate 31 is replaced by a second block of rubber.
