Abstract

982,569. Automatic voltage control. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 13,1962 [June 16, 1961], No. 21883/61. Heading G3R. In an oscillator arrangement a portion of the oscillatory output is fed back to a comparator circuit to provide an oscillatory error signal in dependence upon the difference in amplitude between the peak of the oscillatory signal fed back and a D.C. reference, the error signal being used to provide a control signal to the oscillator to control the amplitude of the oscillatory output. As described, a pilot signal generator comprises an oscillator 1, the output from which is fed to a tuned amplifier 2, to provide an oscillatory output at terminals 3, 4 and also the feedback signal to the comparator 5 which produces the A.C. error signal. The error signal is amplified in A.C. amplifier 6, rectified in D.C. amplifier 7 and supplied as a D.C. control signal to the oscillator 1 to control the amplitude of the oscillatory signal. The comparator comprises a pair of transistors 35, 36 connected as a long tailed pair having the A.C. control signal applied to the base of transistor 35. The D.C. reference is derived from a potential divider 41, the potential being stabilized by Zener diodes, and is applied to the base of transistor 36. The D.C. amplifier 7 is claimed in Specification 982,568 [Division H3] and comprises an NPN transistor 51 which conducts when no error input is applied to transistor 48 to limit the collector potential of transistor 48 to a value insufficient to cause transistor 8 to saturate.
