Abstract
988,562. Treatment of plants. ETHYLENE-PLASTIQUE S.A. Jan 3, 1964 [Jan. 17, 1963], No. 333/64. Heading A1E. [Also in Division B4] Tongs for use in holding fruit buds comprise a pair of arms 1, 2 pivoted at 3, a cam slidably mounted by means of a slot 9 on the pivot 3, the cam bearing on a track 17 provided on the arm 2. The cam in one of its end portions in the slot allows pivotal movement of the arms and in the other end position serves to lock the arms in closed position. In the position shown, the jaws can be opened by exerting a slight pressure on the free ends of the arms. The arms are closed by applying manual pressure to the push member. 14 to move the cam in a direction away from the chambers 15, 16 and cause pivotal movement of the arms. A lug 18 at the end of the arm 1 prevents the cam from lifting when the arms are in closed position. The tongs are made of polyethylene or other plastics material, the track 17 being rendered resilient in that only one end thereof is connected to the arm 2. The chambers 15, 16 are provided with pads of expanded material. Specification 941,562 is referred to.
