Abstract
Emulsions are described which can be used to make the transfer coating of "carbon" paper (see Division D2). In Example 3, phthalocyanine is dispersed in an aqueous solution of methylcellulose. A hydrocarbon wax made by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is dispersed in water, using a water-soluble non-ionic fatty-alcohol derivative as emulsifying agent. These two dispersions are then mixed.ALSO:Emulsions are described which can be used to make the transfer coating of "carbon" paper (see Division D2). In Example 2, a hydrocarbon wax made by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is dispersed in water, using a water-soluble non-ionic fatty alcohol derivative as emulsifying agent. Carbon black is dispersed in a solution of gum arabic in water. The components are then mixed. In Example 3, phthalocyanine is dispersed in an aqueous solution of methyl cellulose, and used in place of the carbon black dispersion of Example 2.ALSO:Copying sheets are made by preparing a solution of a first binding-agent component in a liquid, volatile solvent (e.g. water) in which a second binding-agent component and pigmenting matter are dispersed, coating a sheet with the solution, and evaporating the solvent, so that the binding-agent components form a stable disperse system with the pigmenting matter in the outer phase. The component forming the outer phase may be the dissolved one, and may be a film-former, e.g. gum, gelatine or methyl-cellulose. The component forming the inner phase may be the suspended one and may be a non-film-former, e.g. a vinyl chloride butyl acrylate copolymer or a wax. Pigments referred to are carbon-black and phthalocyanine.
