Abstract
986,950. Electric insulation; capacitors; transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 20, 1963 [Sept. 14, 1962], No. 32931/63. Headings H1A, H1M and H1T. A halogenated dielectric fluid for use in a transformer or capacitor is stabilized by the addition of 1 -epoxyethyl-3,4-epoxycyclohexane as a scavenger material which neutralizes the reaction products of the dielectric fluid when subjected to electrical stress. The dielectric fluid may be a halogenated aromatic compound, e.g. chlorinated diphenyl or other askarel type of dielectric liquid, such as chlorinated benzene, chlorinated alkyl benzene or mixtures of such halogenated compounds. Proportions of these materials are given in the Specification for suitable dielectric fluid compositions. A capacitor may comprise an electrode roll which comprises alternating layers of metal foil and dielectric sheets of kraft paper, immersed in the dielectric fluid. A transformer may comprise a hermetically sealed tank enclosing a magnetic core and coil which are both immersed in the dielectric fluid.
